Wee Heavy (10.0%) YYYYY S15 - Deep mahogany, full-bodied, smooth, warming ale with a rich, toasty, malty aroma and flavor and a touch of smokiness. Moderate hops balance the maltiness.
Horny Devil (11.0%) YYYY B19 - Bright gold, effervescent, complex beer brewed with Belgian candi sugar, coriander seeds, and fermented with a strain of Trappist yeast. Slightly citrusy and very satisfying.
Old Numbskull (11.0%) YYYYY A29 - Deep amber, very assertive barleywine with a toasty aroma. Hops are foremost but there are some esters and a caramel sweetness that provide complexity.

[10th December 2007] A small microbrewery founded in 2003 in the Pescara Hills in a building dating from 1870 - which in 1922 housed an small almond peeling factory where all work was done by hand (hence the name). Similarly, the brewing is all hand-crafted today.
Torbata (8.7%) (no rating yet) E29 - A smoky strong ale, brewed with peat smoked malt as 5% of the grist, and flavored with chestnut honey, organic orange peel, organic cane sugar, and Kent Goldings hops.

[10th December 2007] Birrificio Barley is a small craft brewery founded in 2006 by Isidoro Perra and Nicola Mascia. Their intention is to brew beers of exceptional quality that can be served as an alternative to wine in restaurants and high-end stores.
Friska (5.0%) (no rating yet) B31 - A full-bodied, spicy, citrusy witbier, highly refeshing with notes of tropical fruit. Hopped with Saaz and Styrian Goldings; spiced with orange peel and coriander.
Sella del Diavolo (6.5%) (no rating yet) F14 - A complex, golden orange, somewhat vinous ale with notes of pepper, caramel, plums, and cherries, plus a little smokiness. The finish is long, dry, and warming. brewed with Vienna, pilsner, and caramel malts and hopped with Hallertau.
Toccadibo (8.5%) (no rating yet) B19 - Golden ale with a clean aroma, and a distinct fruitiness on the palate. Peach, apricot, candi sugar, and coriander balance well with Hallertau Mittelfruh and Challenger hops, together with hints of amaretto and warming alcohol.
BB10 (10.0%) (no rating yet) Q41 - An unusual, rich fruit beer - winter warmer hybrid brewed with the boiled wort of a renowned local wine called Cannonau. It has a fruity and vinous aroma, and is complex on the palate with waves of caramel, chocolate, licorice, figs, sultanas, and plums. Kent Goldings and Cascade hops, plus white candi sugar and orange peel contribute to the experience.

[10th December 2007] Birra Del Borgo is a small artisanal brewery in central Italy founded in 2005 by Leonardo di Vincenzo. He strives to "solve the riddle between using unusual [brewing] ingredients and creating perfect food pairings". Note the given strengths conflict from differing sources and may not be accurate as shown.
Re Porter (5.2%) (no rating yet) A21 - A black porter with notes of coffee and cocoa, and a whiff of tobacco in the aroma.
Te (6.1%) (no rating yet) Q43 - A beer designed to be a perfect match with raw or fresh seafood. Te is an innovative saison brewed with pilsner and wheat malts, Styrian Goldings and East Kent Goldings hops and, unusually, Shuj Hsien Lu tea leaves.
Genziana (6.2%) (no rating yet) B14 - A beer spiced with coriander and gentian (a bitter flowering plant). Pilsner malt, Vienna malt, Hallertauer Hersbrucker and East Kent Goldings hops provide the backbone.

[7th December 2007] A small brewpub near Turin founded in 2003. The name translates as 'Degrees Plato', a brewer's scale of fermentable material.
Chocarrubica (7.0%) (no rating yet) E23 - Dark and silky with chocolate and roast malt notes. Brewed with Venezuelan cocoa beans and Sicilian carob. Oats unusually make up one third of the grist.
Strada San Felice (8.0%) (no rating yet) Q43 - Unusual, distinctive strong amber lager flavored with chestnuts and hopped with Saaz and Goldings.

Add note that this brewery is set to be assimilated into the SABMiller empire in 2008 when legal formalities have been overcome. When that occurs, the Grolsche entry should be deleted and the beers that are listed should be transferred to the SABMiller entry on pages 111-112 (under a new subheading of 'Brewed in the Netherlands'). Hook Norton, Hook Norton, England     SB

[27th December 2007] A long-established, well-respected independent, family-run British regional brewery who first appeared on the American market in late 2007. The brewery was founded in a farm building in 1849 by John Harris. This is a rare, if not unique example of a traditional brewery whose power needs are still derived from a fully operative 25hp steam engine which was first installed in 1899.
Hooky Dark (3.2%) YYY E20 - A pleasant dark chestnut colored session beer with some roast malt notes and an inviting East Kent Goldings aroma. The finish is moderately hoppy, unusually for the style.
Hooky Bitter (3.6%) YYYY E13 - A golden session ale with some grassiness on the palate.
303AD (4.0%) YYYY E14 - First Gold hops provide a crispness to this golden brew named to commemorate St. George, who died in the year 303.
Hooky Gold (4.1%) YYYY E15 - Golden, crisp ale with a fruity aroma.
Cotswold Lion (4.2%) YYYY E15 - A pale, fruity single-varietal ale with a lime citrus aroma, hopped with Fuggles.
Old Hooky (4.6%) YYYY E14 - A tawny brown beer with a well-rounded, fruity character and hints of crystal malt.
Double Stout (4.8%) YYYY I22 - Black, toasty, dry stout for the winter.
Haymaker (5.0%) YYYY E15 - A tasty amber ESB with plenty of Goldings hop character.
Flagship (5.3%) YYYY E26 - An authentic English IPA with a sweet fruity aroma and a fruity, hoppy taste. Admiral hops are used in this beer, available in cask only.

Bergsmansol (5.3%) YYY C4 - Pleasant pilsner hopped with Saaz and Northern Brewer.
Winter Ale* (5.3%) YYYY E19 - Centennial, Chinook and Cascade hops melds well with Weyermann malt (including caramel, melanoidin, and chocolate) from Bamberg, Germany. Deep brown in color, there are notes of toffee, nuts, plus a slight earthiness.

Palm Speciale (5.1%) YYY B12 - A malty Belgian pale ale, easy drinking with hints of caramel.

Piccolo, Apricale, Italy     BU

[7th December 2007] Founded in 2005 very close to Monaco and the French border, Birrificio Piccolo has started to send its interesting saison over the Atlantic.
Seson (6.0%) (no rating yet) B14 - An interesting Italian-brewed saison, brewed with pale, wheat, and Vienna malts, hopped with Hallertau, and flavored with juniper, coriander, and chinotto peel (chinotto being a small, bitter citrus fruit). It is matured in wooden chardonnay barrels. Orange-amber in color, the aroma hints towards a bitter citrus mouthfeel with balancing sweet malt. The lingering finish is somewhat tart.

Westerham, Edenbridge, England     SB

[27th December 2007] Established in 2004 in the heart of hop growing country - the county of Kent - by Robert Wicks to brew mainly cask-conditioned ales using yeast from the long-closed Black Eagle Brewery which was situated nearby. Mr. Wicks is a devout Christian, and the two subtly-placed fish emblems on the brewery's logo reflect his faith. Seasonal brews not listed here may possibly also appear this side of the Atlantic in cask-conditioned form.
Finchcock's Original (3.5%) YYY E13 - A golden session beer with hints of sulphur in the aroma, with citrus fruit and resiny hops on the palate together with some biscuit notes and earthiness. Brewed with WGV (Whitbread Golding Variety) and Early Choice Goldings hops. Cask only.
Black Eagle S.P.A. (3.8%) YYYY E15 - Golden 'Special Pale Ale' brewed with Maris Otter pale ale malt and a small amount of amber malt, which imparts a dry, biscuity flavor. Hops are First Gold and Cascade for a citrusy, slightly spicy note. Cask only.
Grasshopper (3.8%) YYYY E13 - A dark, malty, slightly peppery bitter with nutty, roasted notes. Hopped with Kentish Target Kent Goldings. Cask only.
Little Scotney Pale Ale (4.0%) YYY E15 - Brewed for Britain's National Trust using Target hops grown at Scotney Castle. Clean and golden with an earthy and fruity aspect.
British Bulldog B.B. (4.3%) YYY E14 - A mid-brown, well-balanced brew hopped with Kentish Northdown and WGV hops for a resiny, biscuity flavor and aroma. The finish is fairly bitter.
Little Scotney Best Bitter (4.3%) YYYY E14 - Dark gold with a good balance of malt, esters, and a floral bitterness from Target hops grown at Scotney Castle.
William Wilberforce Freedom Ale (4.3%) YYYY E14 - Fair Trade beer first brewed to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act in England in March 1807. There's a mellow bitterness with a touch of Demerara sugar sweetness leading to a long, hoppy finish.
